Scintillant Ventures Ltd. | Classroom Studio, CS Genie, Classroom Studio Store, and Tutor Platform | Last updated: October 21, 2026
1.1 This Privacy Policy explains how Scintillant Ventures Ltd. ("Scintillant", "we", "us") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use Classroom Studio, CS Genie, the Classroom Studio Store, our tutor referral platform, our websites at classroom.studio and scintillantventures.com, and any related application or service (together, the "Services").
1.2 We are based in Vancouver, British Columbia. We comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada) and with the Personal Information Protection Act of British Columbia, the Personal Information Protection Act of Alberta, and other provincial privacy laws to the extent they apply to you.
1.3 "Personal information" means information about an identifiable individual. It does not include business contact information used to communicate with you in your professional capacity, where the law excludes it.
1.4 This policy is made available alongside, and should be read together with, our Terms of Service. If you use the Services on behalf of a school, your school may also have its own privacy obligations to its staff and students; this policy does not replace those.
2.1 Everyone. When you create an account we collect your name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), and the province or territory you tell us you are in. When you use the Services we collect usage and technical data: IP address, browser and device type, pages and features used, timestamps, and error logs.
2.2 Teachers and individual subscribers. Your profile, the courses, lessons, and materials you create, your plan and purchase history, and your support communications. If you use the grading feature, we also store the student codes you create and the grade values you enter against them. We do not collect student names. Any key file you keep that links a code to a student is opened only in your browser, is never sent to or stored on our servers, and we cannot see it. Because you can link a code to a student, we treat those records as personal information and protect them accordingly.
2.3 School administrators and school accounts. The school's name and address, the administrator's contact details, billing contact and purchase order details where the school is invoiced, the list of teachers who hold seats, and the school's configuration and records within the platform.
2.4 Parents and guardians. Your contact details, your bookings and payments for tutoring, and the family dashboard you set up. About a child, we hold only an internal identifier, a nickname the system generates (two random words), and a colour. We do not collect a child's name, date of birth, age, gender, address, school, class, grade, marks, or any free-text notes, and the Services are built so that this information cannot be entered. We still treat the child record as personal information, because it is linked to you, and we protect it accordingly.
2.5 Tutors. Your profile (qualifications, subjects, rates, availability, photo if you add one), your bookings, your payout details held by our payment processor, and communications with parents through the platform.
2.6 Store buyers and sellers. Your purchase and sales history, the content you list for sale, your seller business name, tax registration details where required, and, for each purchase, a record of your acceptance of the Store terms including your IP address, browser identifier, and a cryptographic fingerprint of the terms you accepted.
2.7 Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation of payment, the last four digits of your card, and the card brand and expiry. We do not receive or store your full card number.
2.8 Referral slips. A school may create a referral slip describing a student's learning needs in non-identifying terms. We instruct schools not to include a student's name or other identifying details. We do not review referral slips, and we are not responsible for any identifying information a school includes contrary to our instructions. We treat referral slips as confidential.
2.9 We do not collect personal information about children through Classroom Studio, and the platform discourages teachers from entering student names. If you enter information about a student in a free-text field despite this, you are responsible for having the authority to do so.
2.10 Trial code users. If you request a trial code from our website, we collect your email address to send you the code. If you redeem a trial code without creating an account, we keep the work you create during the trial only for the periods described in section 10 of the Individual Subscription Terms.
3.1 We use personal information to:
(a) create and manage your account and provide the Services you have chosen;
(b) process payments, subscriptions, refunds, and payouts, and keep the records the law requires;
(c) let schools manage their teachers, seats, and school records;
(d) connect parents with tutors, process bookings, and let a teacher and a parent communicate where both have chosen to connect;
(e) operate the Store, deliver purchased content, and pay sellers;
(f) provide support and respond to your requests;
(g) send you service messages, such as purchase confirmations, renewal reminders, price change notices, and security alerts;
(h) send you marketing about our products where you have consented or where the law otherwise allows, with an unsubscribe link in every message and an opt-out in your account settings; opting out of marketing does not stop the service messages described in (g);
(i) monitor, secure, and improve the Services, including by analyzing aggregated usage data;
(j) detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and breaches of our terms; and
(k) comply with law and enforce our terms.
3.2 We do not use your content or personal information to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models.
3.3 We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising by third parties.
3.4 We do not use personal information to monitor or assess anyone's mental health.
4.1 We collect, use, and disclose personal information with your consent, except where the law allows or requires us to do so without it. You give consent when you create an account, make a purchase, or provide information for an obvious purpose. Where we need your express consent, for example for marketing, we will ask for it separately.
4.2 A parent or guardian who sets up a family dashboard or books tutoring consents on behalf of the child to the limited child record described in section 2.4. We record that consent.
4.3 You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice, by contacting our Privacy Officer or using your account settings. Withdrawing consent may mean we cannot continue to provide some or all of the Services to you.
5.1 Service providers. We share personal information with providers who process it on our behalf and under contract, including cloud hosting and authentication, Stripe for payments, email delivery and email marketing, and customer support tools. Our providers may only use the information to provide services to us. Our current principal providers are:
5.2 Within your school. If you hold a seat granted by a school, that school's administrators can see your name, email, role, seat allocation, and activity within the school's area of the platform. A school can see which of its staff have connected with a parent and when, but it cannot see any child record.
5.3 Between parents, teachers, and tutors. When you book a tutor, the tutor receives the details needed to deliver the session. When a teacher invites a parent to connect and the parent accepts, each can see what the other shares through that connection. Referral slips are visible to a tutor only when a parent provides the referral code.
5.4 Store transactions. A seller receives the information needed to fulfil an order and, where required by tax law, to account for the sale. Sellers may use that information only for that order.
5.5 Trial code partners. Some trial codes are offered with a partner, such as a textbook publisher. Where redeeming a partner code involves sharing your email address with the partner, we will name the partner and explain how it will use your email address before you redeem the code, and we share it only if you agree. The partner's use of your email address is governed by its own privacy policy.
5.6 Legal and safety. We may disclose personal information where required by law, court order, or a lawful request from a government or law enforcement body, to protect the rights, property, or safety of any person, or to enforce our terms.
5.7 Business transactions. If we sell or reorganize our business, personal information may be transferred to the successor as part of that transaction, provided the successor agrees to protect the information under a policy that is at least as protective as this one.
5.8 We do not share personal information with school boards, government bodies, or other third parties except as described in this section.
6.1 The core platform data of Canadian users, including account information, is hosted on Amazon Web Services servers located in Canada. Some of our service providers, including Stripe, Google Workspace, Cloudflare, Squarespace, HubSpot, and Apollo.io, may process information outside Canada, where it is subject to the laws of that jurisdiction, including lawful access by courts and authorities there.
6.2 We maintain separate Canadian and United States versions of the Store. Account credentials of Canadian users are held in Canada.
7.1 We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy or as the law requires.
7.2 Account data. When you ask us to delete your account, your subscription is cancelled and the account enters a 30-day period during which you can reverse the request. At the end of that period the account and its content, including any grading records, are permanently deleted from our production systems. You can delete individual grading records at any time from your account.
7.3 Financial and marketplace records. We keep records of purchases, sales, payouts, and sold content for 7 years after the transaction to meet tax and accounting requirements, even after an account is deleted. Where possible we keep these in a form that does not identify you.
7.4 Child records. A child record is deleted when the parent deletes it or closes their account. Generated worksheets are not stored; a worksheet is deleted from our systems shortly after it is made available for download.
7.5 Back-ups. Deleted information may remain in encrypted back-ups for up to 90 days, after which those back-ups are automatically deleted. We restore information from back-ups only where necessary to recover from a system failure. If we do, we re-apply every deletion made after the back-up was taken, so information you deleted does not reappear. To make this possible, we keep a separate record of deletions for up to seven years. Each entry contains only the type of item and an internal reference number. It does not contain the deleted information itself.
7.6 Acceptance records. We keep records of your acceptance of our terms for as long as needed to evidence the agreement and for seven years afterwards.
8.1 We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls and logging, separation of identity data from application data, and contractual obligations on our service providers. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted over the internet.
8.2 If a breach of security safeguards involving your personal information creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the applicable privacy commissioner as soon as feasible, as the law requires, and we keep records of all breaches.
9.1 Access. You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, how we use it, and to whom we have disclosed it. We will respond within 30 days, or tell you in writing if we need more time and why. We may charge a reasonable fee where the law allows, and we will tell you in advance.
9.2 Correction. You may correct most of your information through your account settings, or ask us to correct it. If we do not agree that a correction should be made, we will note your request on the file.
9.3 Deletion and withdrawal. You may delete your account as described in section 7.2 or ask us to delete information we no longer need, subject to the retention periods in section 7.
9.4 Export. You may request a copy of the content you have created in a commonly used electronic format. We will fulfil the request within a reasonable time. We may charge a reasonable fee for requests that are manifestly excessive or repetitive.
9.5 Marketing. You may unsubscribe from marketing messages at any time using the link in the message or through your account settings.
9.6 We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
10.1 We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to sign you in, keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and keep the Services secure, including helping our payment provider detect fraudulent payments. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics tools. To operate and secure the Services, we keep records of activity on your account, such as the date and time, the features you use, your IP address, and your browser and device type. We use these records for security, support and investigating misuse, and we report on how the Services are used only in aggregated form. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling necessary cookies will prevent parts of the Services from working.
11.1 The Services are for adults: teachers, school staff, tutors, parents, and guardians. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from anyone under the age of 13. If you are under the age of majority in your province, you may use the Services only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without appropriate consent, contact our Privacy Officer and we will delete it.
12.1 The Services may link to third-party websites, including tutors' own sites and partner publishers. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.
13.1 We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new "last updated" date and, for material changes, notify you by email or through the Services before the change takes effect.
14.1 Our Privacy Officer is responsible for our compliance with this policy and applicable privacy law. Contact the Privacy Officer at:
